We routinely treat people
for eye infections,
inflammation, eye allergies,
corneal abrasions, and
removal of small objects
embedded in the surface
of the eye.
Because it is difficult for anyone to determine the cause of their own eyes being red, it is always wise to come into the office and let our doctors have a look. Many times a person may wait too long before seeking treatment and it results in a more serious problem, sometimes with sight-threatening consequences.
We try to distinguish between inflammation and infection. Inflammation means swelling and redness; infection means swelling and redness caused by a microorganism that must be eliminated. Inflammation can be caused by a lot of things, including allergies, dry eyes, UV burn, colds & flu, overwear of contact lenses, poorly fitting contact lenses, intense rubbing of the eyes, embedded objects, trauma to the eye, immune responses to some internal disorder, and sudden onset glaucoma. Infections can be caused by a bacterium, virus, or fungus. The doctor must get a detailed history from the patient and carefully examine the eye to differentiate between all of these.
If you ever have such a problem, you should know that there are a huge number of prescription eye medicines available now. We will make sure that we prescribe the one that will take care of your problem, should the need ever arise.

A sudden loss or blurring of vision is considered an emergency. If you ever experience such a thing, please call us or come in immediately. There are many things that could cause such a change, from migraine to retinal detachment to stroke.
Pain in the eye accompanied by blurred vision could be an abrasion, or it could be sudden onset glaucoma. Please come in right away so we can evaluate the cause. |
